The Challenge

UEP was tasked with supporting the Countess to implement a transformation programme that helped change its culture and behaviours to embrace the introduction of new, more efficient ways of working, with the goal of improving the quality of patient care and reducing costs through improved efficiency.

The Results

  • Lengths of stay have been reduced by an average of 19% on those wards subject to transformation support;
  • The Trust has the highest staff attendance rates in the North West and is one of the best five for an acute hospital in the country,65000 additional hours of staff time available for work rather than being absent have so far been generated;
  • Organisational restructuring, the reduction in absence, improved materials management and workforce redesign has resulted in cost savings of £2.5m to date
